Falls and fall injuries among senior citizens are more common than strokes and can be just as dangerous. Falls cause over 90% of broken hips and are the most preventable cause of admission to a nursing home. The vast majority of falls are caused by deficient limb support and/or poor posture (leading to poor postural control).

One researcher concluded:

Falls in old age are not random events, or "accidents" caused by poor attention or external hazards. Falls in the aged can be foreseen, because they are mostly the result of a postural decline associated with certain age-related and disease-related conditions. By an appropriate examination we can diagnose the fall-risk-status and prescribe and apply effective therapies. (Runge, J Musculoskeletal Neuronal Interact, 2000)

The fear of falling is a significant health issue. When people are afraid of falling, they tend to walk more slowly and limit their activities leading to additional health problems. Research indicates faster walking speed is a good predictor of longevity and slower walking speed is a predictor of greater morbidity. Sequoia PT is here to help people regain a vital and active lifestyle.

If you are concerned that you or someone you love is at risk of a fall, please call for an appointment to have the fall risk assessed. Falls and fall injuries can be prevented.

Sequoia Physical Therapy has one of the finest fall prevention programs available. All of the treatment are evidence-based meaning they are supported by research. Services include:

  • Fall risk assessment
  • Posture assessment and training
  • Body balance training
  • Vibration training for greater strength and motor function
  • Walking forward, backward and laterally on safety treadmill

 client testimonial

Since I have been going to Sequoia Physical Therapy, my balance has vastly improved and my neurologist has commented on the big improvement. Also, walking is much better. My coordination has also gotten better. I have learned how to get up from a sitting position and also how to sit down. All the therapists have contributed to my better health. - Jesse V., Anaheim, CA
